Kseniia Khrabrykh, Russian documentary filmmaker and media artist, started her work on a new big project that needs your support! This is documentary film \u201cI am 20 years old: our lesbian story\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to build a bridge between LGBT of the different generations and bring us back the part of our hidden and forgotten history\u201d, \u2013 says the filmmaker.<\/p>\n

Kseniia told us how the idea of the film was born:<\/p>\n

\u201cFor almost 25 months we\u2019ve been watching closely and filming for the largest Russian grassroots LGBT-organization \u201cComing Out\u201d. We made social video and promo for LGBT events such as Queer Festival, street actions and daily life of the community. The archives comprise more than 100 hours of unique video material.<\/p>\n

Lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender and queer people in Russia live under constant threat of violence. The government does not protect sexual minorities. Stating equality is considered \u201chomosexual propaganda\u201d. LGBT-organizations supporting the community and advocating for LGBT rights are brought to courts and forced to be listed as \u201cforeign agents\u201d, e.i. \u201cspies\u201d.<\/p>\n

The documentary film \u201cI am 20 years old\u201d contains three stories of Russian lesbians of different generations, including archives from three time periods \u2013 1970s, 1990s, 2010s. This topic hasn’t previously attracted the attention of documentary filmmakers.<\/p>\n

Three personal statements, three different stories, personal unique decision for each story. The realities of the main characters meet in the common space in September 2013 during the Queer Festival in Saint Petersburg \u2013one of the largest LGBTQ events in Russia and probably illegal from now on because of the new legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film is being made by the young team that has been working with LGBT issues and activism in the films for over 2 years with the support of LGBT-organization \u201cComing Out\u201d and its volunteers.<\/p>\n

To collect private donations – is the only chance to make the film. The fines for “propaganda of homosexuality” in Russia increased to 100,000 as for the individual and to 1,000,000 as for the organization, which means that we won\u2019t be able to find one big investor.<\/p>\n

Kseniia Khrabrykh: \u201cI believe that we are the community and that together we can stand for our rights. I\u2019m convinced that we should continue to resist\u201d.<\/p>\n
