At 48 Stunden Neukoelln Festival in Berlin will be presented an exhibition by Vice President of UPO "Gay Alliance Ukraine" and very talented photographer Stanislav Mishchenko.

This festival is a platform for different art projects reflecting urgent problems of today. "Courage" is a leading topic of this year festival. Social events in different parts of the world are often a cause for sadness, people do not always have the courage to fight for freedom and defend their interests.

The exhibition of Stanislav is in harmony with this topic. His photos are the portraits of people who represent queer community in Kyiv in various everyday circumstances: at work, at home, on the streets. Before us we can see people who remain activists despite poor social background and the threat of physical violence.

The exhibition will also present several "portraits" of Kyiv, famous landmarks and hidden corners of the Ukrainian capital, graffiti on the walls.

The main idea of the exhibition is to tell audience about Kyiv queer community, allow it to feel what these people feel. Faces at the photos are both serious and enamoured; anxious and happy. It is very difficult to present a living community with its happy moments and challenges, the author says.

"Organizers of the Festival personally offered me to participate – they saw my exhibition in Munich, where it was demonstrated as a part of the Munich Pride. They invited me because it [exhibition] corresponds to their main theme, – says Stas. – It also worth mentioning that 48 Stunden Neukoelln is an art festival of a wide range, rather than special event on LGBT topics".

All photos are made in the genre of lomography. To create such photos analog cameras with low-quality optics are specially used resulting image defects that make every photo unique. According to Stas, analog photography is a magical process with unpredictable results. Thus each photo becomes much more valuable and personal than digital, which are made in hundreds of copies to chose only one image from afterwards.

The Festival will take place from 27 till 29 July 2014 at different art venues of Berlin. If you have an opportunity, we highly recommend to visit it.
