Art against prejudices. Now – in Odesa

Very soon, from August 1 till August 7, a number of memorable events will be conducted in Odesa by QueerHomeOdesa together with our friends from Munich. This event will be held in the framework of the initiative "Munich Kiev Queer" – a joint project of UPO "Gay Alliance Ukraine" and our long-time partners, Munich activists.

During a week you will be able to visit creative art workshops and the exhibition of paintings of the well-known artist Naomi Lawrence who brings her famous "Gay propaganda" to Odesa – and some additions. The exhibition of Naomi has already been held in Kyiv. The participants of recently held KyivPride could also explore her works. Let us recall that paintings of the Munich artist represent an original interpretation of the famous cartoons and comics: its characters appear to the public in rather unexpected light. With great amount of humor the author questions heteronormativity of Bolek and Lelek, Leopold the Cat, Batman and Cossacks from the famous cartoon franchise.

On August 1, 2014 at the opening of the exhibition in the art club "Exit" (Vyhid) all the guests will be able to enjoy the performance of the female rock band Sally Rides. On the following day the girls from the band will conduct a workshop on playing musical instruments and songwriting. On the same day will be held a creative art workshop from Naomi Lawrence. Developments of both classes will be presented in the evening at Rainbow club Odessa.

Everyone willing to receive bright photos for memory are welcome to participate in a body art photoshoot "Open faces". And in the end of a festive week everyone will be able to chat during a picnic near the historic fortress in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi.

More information about these and other events of the Odesa  week can be found on facebook page of Munich Kiev Queer , as well as at the information platforms of QueerHomeOdesa.
